
10/25-26 Circa Semi-Annual Truckload Lighting Sale
Circa Lighting located in Savannah, Georgia, is hosting their Semi-Annual Truckload Sale this weekend and it is well worth a few hours behind the wheel. The boutique warehouse deals in posh lighting fixtures that come at a pretty penny, like chandeliers retailing at $3,799 and sconces at $599. But this weekend prices on their merchandise are slashed by up to 90%, giving you the chance to rack up on all of their home goods for a fraction of the price. The sale is first come first serve from 9 AM-5 PM both days and holds on items will not be permitted.
10/26 Murray Hill-O-Ween
Murray Hill Preservation Society hosts this Halloween event, shutting down a portion of Edgewood Avenue and filling it with food trucks, drink stations, vendors, music, and more. The evening includes costumes, candy, prizes, and a parade that starts at 7 PM. After the parade there’s a costume contest featuring more than $1000 of prizes. Murray Hill-O-Ween is free and open to the public (you don’t have to live in Murray Hill), and begins at 4 PM.
10/26-27 Arlington Mod & More Tour
If you’ve ever looked at a Mid-century ranch style or A-frame home and wondered if the interior matches the exterior, now’s your chance for an answer. The sixth annual Arlington Mod & More Tour—held October 26-27—highlights local homes built in the 1950s and ‘60s. While there’s plenty of inspiration for Mid-century design geeks, this year’s event goes way out of the era, too, featuring the landmark Marabanong mansion in Empire Point. The Queen Anne style house was built in 1876 and added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2013. Tour tickets are $20 at 904tix.com
10/26 Strut Your Mutt
Strut Your Mutt is a parade of pups that doubles as a brisk morning walk through Riverside Park. The event is hosted by the Best Friends Animal Society, who have teamed up with rescue groups and shelters to raise money and awareness about the growing issue of homeless animals. Each participant gets to pick where their donations are sent like spay and neuter programs or upcoming adoption events. Tickets are $20 for individuals or team options are available. The walk starts at 9 AM and lasts until noon.
10/26 Love A Senior Day
Twelve million seniors (some 26 percent of the elderly population) in the U.S. live alone—a sobering stat considering how important communication is for mental and physical health. Love A Senior Day—a traveling informational event—aims to bring awareness to the capabilities of the elderly and shine a light on the social networks available to them. Locally, the event is celebrated on October 26 at the Jacksonville Fair-grounds, where geriatric medicine doctor Bill Thomas will discuss the cultural stereotype that damage perceptions about elders. 10 AM.
10/26-27 Sea & Sky Air Show
Grab your beach blanket, your phone and try to find that perfect spot to see the Blue Angels zoom across the sky. The Sea & Sky Air Show returns to Jacksonville Beach this weekend, with all sorts of tricks up their sleeve. The skies and waterways of the 904 act as a stage for the Naval Station Mayport’s demonstrations and performances, complete with a festival including live music, aircraft and military vehicle displays, all for free from 11 AM-4 PM.
10/27 Riverside’s Amazing KIDS Halloween Scavenger Hunt
Interactive learning collides with real-world skills in the Riverside’s Amazing KIDS Halloween Scavenger Hunt. Using an app downloaded by parents, kids must follow the Halloween-themed clues to complete a scavenger hunt through Memorial Park that includes mental and physical tasks for them to conquer. Candy, fun, and a special gift bag are guaranteed to all that participate. The hunt is from 12:30-3:30 PM and tickets vary in price.
