Florida Institute of Pain Medicine
Dr. Bernard Canlas completed his residency in anesthesiology and was chief resident his senior year at the University of Louisville Hospitals in Kentucky. He finished his fellowship in Pain Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Aside from being a dedicated clinician, Dr. Canlas shares his knowledge and expertise not only in the United States but internationally as well. He recently lectured and conducted workshops at the Association of South-East Asian Pain Societies Congress, which was held in Manila, Philippines. This was his second invitation to this prestigious meeting. He is also the course director and faculty of the Pain Medicine Update which is held annually in Memorial Hospital Jacksonville. This meeting, which was spearheaded by Dr. Canlas, provides free CME to all physicians, physician assistants, nurses and pharmacists. It aims to provide current knowledge and treatment interventions in the management of pain. Dr. Canlas has presented posters in pain meetings and has published in peer-reviewed journals. His interest is in the field of neuromodulation. He has been recognized as the first physician in Southeast Asia to implant the Medtronic 5-6-5 tripole lead and is the first physician to implant a spinal cord stimulator in the Philippines.
Dr. Canlas holds three board certifications in the United States: Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine–awarded by the American Board of Anesthesiology–and Pain Medicine–awarded by the American Board of Pain Medicine. He is also board certified in anesthesiology–awarded by the Philippine Board of Anesthesiology–and is an examiner and a pioneer board certified pain medicine physician–awarded by the Philippine Board of Pain Medicine.
