Randal Henderson, MD, MBA, is a professor of radiation oncology at the University of Florida College of Medicine–Jacksonville and associate medical director of the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. Dr. Henderson is one of the founding team members of the UF Proton Therapy Institute and was on faculty long before the center started seeing patients when it opened in 2006. Henderson is a prolific researcher and astute in treating cancer patients with proton therapy, a form of targeted radiation designed to attack hard-to-reach tumors with minimal damage to nearby tissues and organs. Dr. Henderson specializes in treating men with prostate cancer, the disease for which 70 percent of patients at the center are treated. Dr. Henderson has been working on a clinical trial that would reduce the treatment time from eight weeks to less than six. Dr. Henderson earned his medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and completed his radiation oncology residency at UF in Gainesville before joining the faculty in 1998.
