This year, Jax Mag introduces a new feature to our website: Pet of the Week. We are seeking nominations from our many pet-loving readers. To nominate your favorite furry friend (or feathered, scaly, whatever) send us an email at mike@jacksonvillemag.com. Use the sample posted here as your guide to what we’re looking for. And please include a photo. A few times each month we’ll select a pet to be featured on the website and Facebook. And one lucky pet each month will get a spot in an upcoming edition of Jacksonville Magazine. Without further ado, we present our latest Pet of the Week…
Breed: German Shepherd
Age: 1.5
Weight: 50 lbs
Favorite food: Elwood can’t have solid treats or food, but he loves the beef broth ice cubes we make him.
Favorite toy: Anything that crunches like a water bottle.
Best trick: Jumping up in the air to grab ice cubes.
Favorite activities: Licking the floor, going for car rides, and getting belly rubs.
What gets me more treats and praise: Being good on my leash, and being polite to new people.
What gets me into big trouble: Counter surfing (this is a new thing!), and barking for attention.
Favorite place to go in Jax: Five Points, so I can keep Mom and Dad company when they go out to eat.
My owners love me because: We got Elwood from a breeder and found out five days after bringing him home that he had a condition called megaesophagus. The vet that diagnosed him recommended putting him down because his quality of life would not be good, but so far Elwood is thriving and happy as can be. He requires a lot of extra care, from having to blend his food into a liquid substance to building him a “chair” to eat at so that gravity can help him get his food down, but he has a silly, mischievous personality, and is always loving and protective. We also love to take him on walks in public because people always stop to tell us how handsome he is!
