Downtown murals are adding visual pop to the skyline.
Downtown may be known for its signature skyline and colorful bridges, but Downtown Vision Inc. wants to create an even brighter picture when it comes to the heart of the city.DVI, a nonprofit dedicated to the building and beautification of our central core, commissioned local artist Shaun Thurston to paint a permanent mural on Chamblin’s Uptown Bookstore and Café located on Laura Street. The artwork embraces the concept of nature mixed with the urban environment and will complement four additional murals planned for Downtown which will be completed as part of the Cultural Council’s Art in Public Places program. In welcoming this artsy addition, bookstore owner Ron Chamblin will be installing umbrellas, tables and chairs to create a sidewalk café. More at downtownjacksonville.org/blog
