Players by the Sea - A Moon for the Misbegotten by Eugene O'Neill
03/12/2010 until 03/27/2010. Comedy and drama mix in this tale of love, heartbreak, guilt and redemption. Three outcast characters do battle with the deepest yearnings of the human heart during one whiskey-soaked night. Set on a dilapidated Connecticut farm in the early 1920’s, this beautifully-written drama focuses on Josie, a strapping country girl whose outward bravado masks a sensitive core; her crafty, hot-tempered Irish father and their landlord, Jim Tyrone, a broken-down actor and alcoholic who is haunted by memory and unable to express his love for Josie. The original 1957 Broadway production starring Colleen Dewhurst and Jason Robards made an indelible impression and the play has been revived frequently, most recently in 2006. March 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, & 27 8:00PM curtain time; March 14 & 21 2:00 PM matinee. Theatre doors open 1/2 hour before curtain. All tickets are $20. 03/20/2010. With its intensely expressive melodies, Mozart's Don Giovanni has been hailed by many as the greatest of all operas. Don Giovanni is based on the true-life escapades of Don Juan of Seville, an aristocratic serial seducer who lived in the 1600's. Is it lust for pleasure or lust for conquest that motivates him, or simply the determination to satisfy whatever impulse he feels at any given moment? We cannot be sure, and because of that we cannot be sure how we ourselves feel about him. For that reason, as well as for the gorgeous music he gets to sing, we succumb to his insidious charm. Experience a full-scale, traditional production with beautiful sets and costumes, sung in Italian with projected english supertitles and live orchestra. Saturday, March 20, 8:00PM. Times-Union Center, Moran Theatre, 300 W. Water Street. For tickets phone The Artist Series, 904-632-3373 or visit www.artistseries.fccj.org.

03/23/2010. Experience the historic sounds of the United Kingdom as the music comes alive through the pipes, drums and highland dancers of The Irish Guards and the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The Royal Regiment of Scotland came into being in 1881 with the joining of two distinguished Scottish regiments which had been formed during the reign of George III: The 91st Argyllshire Highlanders and the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders. Riverside Fine Arts - Rastrelli Cello Quartet
04/09/2010. Rastrelli Cello Quartet is one of the most unique classical ensembles. Why unique? Everybody knows the Finnish cello quartet “Apocalyptica”, but it is only an exception to the rule, because they specialize only in playing heavy metal rock. Our aspiration is to prove that it is possible to play any kind of music on the cello - from baroque to rock, especially between the genres, becoming more and more uncertain in modern music. Each of us learned to say the word “cello” before we learned to say our own names. However, since meeting in Stuttgart (Germany) in spring 2002, and later, performing together, we ended up forgetting the name of our instrument. Our ensemble's repertoire consists entirely of transcriptions, music not intended to be performed on the cello. Our goal is to make the listener hear the saxophone playing in “The Melody” by Sokolov, to make a ragtime-battered piano sound in a silent movie, to let them hear Piazzola play the bandoneon again... Friday, April 9, 8:00 PM, Church of the Good Shepherd at Park & Stockton Streets. Admission $25 adults/$10 students. Ticket packages are also available. Phone Riverside Fine Arts, 904-389-6222, or visit www.riversidefinearts.org Beaches Fine Arts Series - The Choir of New College, Oxford

Their excellence was recently rewarded with an internationally respected Gramophone Award for Early Music. Sunday, April 11, 4 PM, St. Paul's by the Sea Episcopal Church, 1150 N.
