St. Augustine Community Chorus Concert - 'On Broadway Act II'

On Broadway Act II  with the St. Augustine Community Chorus

Once again St. Augustine High School is the venue where the St. Augustine Community Chorus, under the direction of Kathleen Vande Berg, revives excerpts from five memorable Broadway musicals of the 50's on Saturday, March 9 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, March 10 at 3:00 PM.

The often-complicated plots that invariably lead to romance in these musicals were created by some of the most talented composers and lyricists introduced to Broadway: Rodgers and Hammerstein, Adler and Ross, Meredith Wilson and the team of Bernstein, Comden and Green.  We may not recall the stories that form the structure for each of these musicals, but the songs remain timeless.

Who doesn??t remember ??O What a Beautiful Morning? in Oklahoma or wish to ride along in ??The Surrey with the Fringe on Top??  Perhaps less well known is ??Shoeless Joe from Hannibal Mo?, the baseball player in Damn Yankees, but ??Whatever Lola Wants: from the same musical is likely to be a more familiar tune.  If inclined, you may wish to tango along with Cathy and Andrew Shirmacher during ??Hernando??s Hideaway? or hsss as the Jazz Ensemble performs ??Steam Heat? from Pajama Game.  You might also enjoy the tour of New York City while listening to ??Christopher Street? or just want to jive along with ??Swing? from Wonderful Town.

Guest soloist, Sean Christopher Stork, performs ??Ya Got Trouble? and ??76 Trombones? from the Music Man with the same gusto as Robert Preston in the original version on Broadway, as he has also appeared in the role of Harold Hill in the musical.  A lyric baritone and graduate of Florida State University, Stork has sung with the First Coast Opera in St. Augustine and performed with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Having made his unique mark on such roles as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Escamillo in Carmen, Captain Corcoran in Gilbert & Sullivan??s HMS Pinafore, he has also performed in musical theater roles as Hucklebee in The Fantasticks, and Rapunzel??s Prince in Into the Woods.

Accompanying the Community Chorus once again is the talented Bryant Miano on keyboard, who will be joined by Gary Bunt, guitarist and arranger, Fran Corragio, bass, Jerrold Michaelson, drums and Robbie Zukauskas, woodwinds.  Carl Liberatore is the technical director.

Tickets prices for Adults are $20 in advance, $25 at the door and $5 for Students and can be purchased from: Herbie Wiles Insurance, Music Matters, Flowers By Shirley, The Print Shop, Southern Horticulture, Carter's Jewelry and online at: www.staugustinecommunitychorus.org.
