Combine outdoor recreation, cheerleaders polar plunging, and men in kilts playing bagpipes all for a great cause, and you will have the perfect recipe for fun. Whether you are the fierce competitor or an off the couch New Year??s resolution maker, January Jamboree 5K Run and Mile Walk event has something for everyone.
Local businesses coming together to host charity runs for community organizations is sweeping the nation with runners of all skill levels engaged. It was only fitting to have an event in Jacksonville, FL in January to benefit the YMCA of Florida??s First Coast "Give to the Y", perfectly timed with New Year??s Resolutions freshly made. Over 45 businesses have joined to form this inaugural event that will support an often unsung community pillar. "The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children from all walks of life joined together by a shared passion: to strengthen the foundations of the community. The Y offers programs in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility for individuals and families in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties." Children who benefit directly will be cheering on participants at the water stations.
The 5K course will start and finish at the Cabana Club, 8680 Baymeadows Road East, Jacksonville, FL 32256. A tranquil looped road race with JSO Special Events controlling the traffic will be hosted by Jacksonville Running Company. Racers will be individually timed but are encouraged to register with friends and enter into groups. Runners training for the Gate River Run have added this race to their training program. Race registration includes complimentary food & drinks, event long sleeved t-shirt and a racer bag with plenty of giveaways. It also includes entry into 3 raffle drawings. The planning team assures race prizes will be a hit.
Individual registration fee is $25 for runners and $15 for walkers. Age specific pricing is available. Race intervals start at 8:a.m. The finish line will offer live music from King Eddie & Pili Pili Band, professional photographs with walkers joined by Jacksonville Pipes and Drums Band. Sample Hurricane Grill wings, Sticky Finger??s pulled pork and local brews to name a few will be provided until 12 p.m. For the first annual production of the January Jamboree the organizers hope to register 500 racers and raise $15K for the cause.
Festivities at the event include Chili??s Freezin?? for A Reason - celebrity cheerleaders join the fray with plunging into an ice cold pool once the raffle pot hits $500. The Blood Mobile, health screenings, Brooks Rehab with hula dancing, Y neck massages, healthy cooking demonstrations, sneaker & sunglasses fittings, nutritional planning will also take place.
