Marcedes Lewis invited me to his party

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Jacksonville Jaguars

I rarely get direct messages on Twitter, so I was excited when I saw a new one in my mailbox. When I saw it was from Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis, I was thrilled. Until I realized he sent it to his 1,256 other followers too.

Speaking of Twitter, are you following Stargazing @stargazinginjax yet?

I totally would have gone to Marcedes' party, too, if I hadn't already made plans to celebrate Ballet Day.

Pirates of the Caribbean star calls J-ville home?

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Stargazing, Jacksonville Jaguars

I was at The Brick in Avondale tonight and heard Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Ernest Wilford had been in recently with a big group of people including a baby, who I assume was his 4-month-old daughter (unless he makes it a practice to hang out with random infants).

I was also told that actress Vanessa Branch, who appears in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and the Orbit gum commercials ("Fabulous!") had dined there several weeks ago and comes in on occasion since she supposedly lives in Jacksonville. I can't find any proof of that on line anywhere, but, Vanessa, if you're reading this and you do live in town, give us a call. We'd love to interview for "10 Things You Didn't Know About..."

On a side note, the chocolate decadence dessert is to die for.

And I'm not just saying that about the chocolate decadence because it's National Pay a Compliment Day either.

What does Fred Taylor miss most about Jacksonville?

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Jacksonville Jaguars

There's been a lot of buzz about Times-Union sportswriter Michael C. Wright's interview with former Jaguars' running back Fred Taylor, now a member of the New England Patriots.

Firs, there was Taylor's comment about the Jaguars' possibly moving to Los Angeles as being "good for the NFL." (He also said, "I think it would be good for the Weavers, but I think it would be really bad for the city of Jacksonville.")

Then there was the jab about Jack Del Rio's coaching style and team leadership. "I guess the biggest difference is here there is a whole lot of veteran leadership across the board," he said. "There's more film study across the board, and not in just one position—every position. I thought we watched a fairly decent amount of film [in Jacksonville]. But I guess I didn't."

Personally, I think there's something even more shocking in the interview that the media hasn't even mentioned yet, and that's Taylor's response to what he misses most about Jacksonville.

"I miss The Chicken Koop."

Former Jags shoot weekly sports show at Ruth's Chris

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Stargazing, Jacksonville Jaguars

Tom McManus and Company won't know what to do with themselves on this week's edition of Tom McManus Uncensored being able to talk about two Jaguars' wins in a row, which brings me to a celeb spotting tip.

McManus and co-hosts/fellow former Jaguars Pete Mitchell and Aaron Beasley tape the show every Monday night at 6 at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach. The format is actually kind of interesting in that the guys sit around a table in the middle of the restaurant and chat about different topics while they're eating dinner. It's almost like you're at the table next to them eavesdropping on their conversation—and checking out their table manners.

Check out this clip from a recent show when former Jags Kevin Hardy and Richard Collier were guests.

Obviously the show, which has only been airing a month or two, has caught on because it recently expanded to an hour. Tom McManus Uncensored can be seen on Comcast Channel 7 on Thursdays 6-7 PM and Sundays 9-10 AM.

MJD and Boselli to attend Jags pep rally tomorrow

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Stargazing, Jacksonville Jaguars

Now that the Jaguars have given us something to celebrate, Touchdown Jacksonville is hosting a pep rally for the team tomorrow at 5:30 PM in the Upper West Touchdown Club (park in lot J). Maurice Jones-Drew and Tony Boselli will be in attendance. No word on if the Hampton Cup will make an appearance.

I wonder if anyone is going to tell Boselli he doesn't play for the Jaguars anymore.
