News anchor Cruises into Lakewood burger joint

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Invasion of Privacy

While leaving Cruisers Grill in Lakewood tonight, I saw Channel 4 anchor Rob Sweeting was seen sitting in the lobby. Let's hope it was to pick up a to go order and not for a Restaurant Report segment.

Tim Deegan is no longer the fastest news dude in town

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Invasion of Privacy

Another Gate River Run has come and gone and, once again, I managed to sleep right through. While I give major props to the 14,000 or so runner and walkers who did manage to complete (or even attempt) the 15K race, I do have to wonder if there was breaking news in the middle of the River Run course this year that caused local news folks to stop running and do a live shot. Of the seven anchors, reporters and meteorologists who we reported on last year, only two, Donna Hicken Deegan and Jennifer Bauer actually improved on last year's time. In fact, Tim Deegan's time of 1:24:53 was not only 16 minutes slower than last year's but lost him the title of Local News Personality With the Fleetest Feet. That title now belongs to Action New anchor Karl Torp.

Here are their times for this year's race.

• Action News anchor Karl Torp, 1:18:36
• WJXT reporter Jennifer Bauer, 1:23:15
• First Coast News chief meteorologist Tim Deegan, 1:24:53
• WJXT chief meteorologist John Gaughan, 1:29:08
• First Coast News anchor Donna Deegan, 1:43:28
• CBS 47 reporter Ilyssa Trussel, 1:50:50
• WJXT meteorologist Richard Nunn, 2:10:36

MJD goes from Chili's to chilly

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Invasion of Privacy

An observant Eye-Team reporters saw Maurice Jones-Drew at the Jacksonville airport this morning texting while standing in front of Chili's. In case you're wondering what he was wearing (and you know you are), he was sporting a black pea coat and white tennis shoes (translation for yankees: sneakers). No word on where he was going, who he was texting or if had a Big Mouth Burger or Baby Back Ribs.

This just in...

According to a Twitter post this afternoon, MJD is in NYC with "Mr. Goodell" (translation for non-football fans:NFL commissioner Roger Goodell).

Two hours later he asked if anyone knew any good places to eat in Manhattan.

Say 'Hy' to Robin Williams

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Invasion of Privacy

Just wanted to warn* my fellow Jacksonvillians that Robin Williams may be in our midsts.

A very reliable source told me that the "comedian" has been in Jacksonville about four times over the last two months and staying at the Hyatt Regency downtown. The source didn't know why he was here but did say that he's been staying in a regular room (i.e., not some fancy presidential suite) and is secretly brought in and out of the building by hotel staff.

Apparently, he goes by a "code name" while he's on property. Since I don't want to get anyone in trouble, I'm not going to reveal what it is other than to say that it's the name of a character he's played in a movie. And I'll give you a hint: It isn't Mrs. Doubtfire.

* I say "warn" in case there are any other folks out there who also suffer from doracoulrophobia (fear of furry clowns).

Is Ander Crenshaw 'running' for office?

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing, Invasion of Privacy

It must be athletic-casual Wednesday at the Jacksonville District Office of U.S Congressman Ander Crenshaw since the man himself was decked out in a polo shirt, sweat pants (Air Jordan, for the record), a windbreaker type of jacket (Polo, by the by) and sneakers (Adidas, if you must know) when I saw him at Whiteway Deli this afternoon.

Or perhaps he was dressed that way in case he plans on running for office again. Insert rim shot here. Oh, wait. I did it for you.
