DWTS star gets ready for her close-up

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Burning (Rhetorical) Questions

Drs. Colleen and Jason Olitsky (aka the The Smile Stylists) welcomed yet another celebrity client to their Ponte Vedra Beach office last week: Dancing With the Stars pro Anna Demidova. DWTS fans will remember Demidova as NFL Hall of Famer Michael Ervin's partner on the show's ninth season.

The Smile Stylists asked Demidova if she was going to be participating in the upcoming season, but she didn't know at the time. As good as Demidova is, her height is a disadvantage since shorter-than-they-appear-on-TV stars prefer not to dance with women who tower over them (we're talking to you, Mario Lopez and Joey Lawrence).

To me, the more important question is: Did they ask her to wear that sequined frock or does she always dress like that?

Sarah Palin hopes you'll come see her

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing

Last week, Jacksonville.com reported that An Evening of Hope With Sarah Palin, originally slated for the Times-Union Center's 2,936-seat Moran Theatre, has been moved to the 609-seat Terry Theatre due to slow ticket sales.

I know there's a joke in there somewhere. Any suggestions?

Palin's appearance on August 26 is a fundraiser for Heroic Media, a faith-based non-profit organization that celebrates the heroism of motherhood (shouldn't that be heroine-ism?). Tickets are $50-$100.

In an unrelated story, there are only five more days until Tears for Fears performs at WMMO's Downtown Concert Series in Orlando.

Do not adjust your calendar: Tears for Fears plays Orlando

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Stargazing

Exactly seven days from now I will be gazing at two of my favorite stars—Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith—when Tears for Fears plays in Orlando as part of WMMO's free Downtown Concert Series.

For those of you who need your memories refreshed, Tears for Fears was an MTV staple back in the '80s. They had a #1 album, Songs From the Big Chair, and four Hot 100 singles ("Shout," "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," "Head Over Heels" and "Mother's Talk"). They had a couple of other hits, then, as all good '80s bands do, they broke up. [Note to anyone under the age of 30 who claims to have never heard of Tears for Fears: Adam Lambert sang a TFF song on American Idol.]

Somehow they must have gotten a hold of my diary because they reunited in 2004 and released Everybody Loves a Happy Ending (obviously, they didn't read my entries very carefully or they'd be playing in Jacksonville). Be that as it may, they will be in Orlando at City Hall Plaza on Saturday, August 28. Rico Monaco and Sol Son (aka Band That Is Not Tears for Fears) take the stage at 4 PM, and SWITCH performs at 6:30 PM (aka Other Band That Is Not Tears for Fears). Tears for Fears (aka My Favorite Band of All Time) comes on at 8 PM.

P.S. RIP, Brittany Murphy.

Three More Things You Didn't Know About Tyson Alualu

Posted by Kerry Speckman Email   Category: Burning (Rhetorical) Questions

Stargazing is back! Did you miss us? ... Did you even notice we were gone?

Incase you were wondering where we've been (which would obviously not apply to those of you who didn't even notice we were gone), there was glitch in the database that caused us to lose all of our entries and prevented us from posting any new ones. Fortunately, we were able to recover almost all of the posts, and everything seems to be in working order again, so let the celebrity stalking begin anew!

That said, we thought it only fitting for our first post after our two-month hiatus to be about another first, like, say, the Jacksonville Jaguars' first-round draft pick doing his first-ever magazine interview. If you have the August issue of Jacksonville Magazine, you've probably already seen 10 Things You Didn't Know About Tyson Alualu and learned fascinating tidbits like he has seven sisters and got kicked out of Pop Warner football when he was in sixth grade for being too big.

But here are three more things you didn't know about him that didn't make it into the article.
1. He doesn't have any pet peeves.
2. After he washes his hair, he lets it air dry.
3. His favorite conditioner is Pantene Pro-V

Who else is going to ask these hard-hitting questions, people? Dan Hicken?
