The third annual Red Shield Ball on October 22 offered an elegant evening to guests in support of The Salvation Army’s Lodge homeless shelter for women and families. Held at the Deerwood Country Club, the evening included a sit-down dinner, live music by the Faze Band, dancing and live and silent auctions. The event raised $163,285 and was attended by 183 guests. Auction items included an aerial tour of Jacksonville in a 1947 Cub Cruiser airplane, a tour for eight at the White Oak conservation center and a week stay at a mountain home in North Carolina. This year's Honorary Co-Chairs were Mrs. Edward W. Lane, Jr. and Mrs. C. Herman Terry.
