Food Worth Crossing the State Line

Known as one of the most tantalizing food festivals in the Southeast, the Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival, presented by Southern Living, celebrates the pairing of the coast’s prime local product, Georgia Shrimp, with a bona fide tradition in Southern cuisine, grits.

Since its inaugural year in 2006, the Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival has been satisfying appetites and entertaining audiences. From guest chef demonstrations and local variations on the classic shrimp and grits dish, to live music by popular regional artists and a craft brew tasting experience, this year’s festival schedule promises a memorable three-day weekend for Southern foodies and fun-seekers.

The weekend’s food highlights include:

  • The Best Local Shrimp & Grits – Situated on the picturesque Riverfront lawn, local chefs from the Golden Isles will be serving up their signature shrimp and grits dishes, along with other favorites, throughout the weekend.
  • Cooking Competition – This year, we’re raising the bar, and taking the shrimp & grits cooking competition state-wide. On the final day of the festival come watch as nine chefs from restaurants across the state of Georgia battle it out in a professional cooking competition for the title of “Georgia’s Best Shrimp & Grits.”
  • Food Truck Park – Once you’ve had your fill of shrimp & grits, save room for goodies from the Food Truck Park. From kettle corn and funnel cakes to regional food trucks and frozen treats, we’ve got the very best in festival fare.

This year’s three-day event will be held Sept. 16-18 throughout Jekyll Island’s magnificent, oak-lined National Historic Landmark District. Visit jekyllisland.com/shrimpgrits for more festival details and to learn more about participating food vendors.
