The Law Office of John M. Phillips

In 2001, John M. Phillips moved to Jacksonville, accepting his first job as a lawyer. He represented companies such as Hertz, Coca-Cola, JM Family, State Farm and a host of large businesses. At a fairly young age, Mr. Phillips was named partner in that firm and was recognized as a Super Lawyer. He left there to accept a job at one of the largest personal injury firms in the country.

Ten years after moving to Jacksonville, John decided there was more to the practice of law than putting quantity over quality or living by the billable hour to save corporations money at the expense of those who were injured or killed at no fault of their own. He also came to spend some quality time walking with some of his families like the parents of Jordan Davis, a teen who was gunned down at a local gas station. He also learned from the 104 children he represented against a pediatric dentist who was ultimately arrested for fraud and allegations of pediatric dental abuse. But it wasn’t just about a case. It also led him to import 20 tons of snow into his law office to give the children a reason to smile during his recent holiday party benefitting Toys for Tots.

John’s firm rarely advertises, doesn’t charge clients for photocopies or stamps, meets with clients personally and takes an old school approach to running his firm which he thinks would make his grandfather and great-grandfather proud. They predeceased John and both were lawyers. He has given a TEDx talk about equality, obtained a $2.6 million verdict against Volusia County while cameras, including Good Morning America, covered every step. He is one of the youngest Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyers in the State of Florida and is also licensed in Georgia and Alabama and before the U.S. Supreme Court. His work has been featured everywhere from Rolling Stone magazine to Academy Award short-listed documentaries to CNN. His office has expanded, adding family law when he joined forces with Matthew Hunt, formerly of Hunt, Green & James and Reid Hart, a talented criminal defense lawyer who cut his teeth on nationally reported cases.

“Being a lawyer is what I do,” Phillips says, “it is not all that I am.” He is a father of two boys and married his best friend. They travel and attend sporting events when they can break away from his passion for helping others. He accepts lawyer referrals in all of the areas he practices and loves serving the people of Jacksonville.
