The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast and the Tampa Metropolitan Area are about to make your daily treadmill workout more interesting. The two coasts are set to compete on February 9 in the 2016 Treadmill Tuesday Challenge, a free event for both members and nonmembers that promotes healthy living and a little coastal competition.
The competition measures the greatest distance traveled on a treadmill in the separate cities. Community members participate by working out on a treadmill for thirty minutes at First Coast YMCA or Tampa YMCA branches or by posting on social media. YMCA staff will record the distance of each participant on the treadmill, or participants can post on social media using the hashtag #TreadmillTuesday and tagging @FirstCoastYMCA or @TampaYMCA.
“I am delighted to join fellow members and once again participate in Treadmill Tuesday,” says Jacksonville mayor Lenny Curry. “This fun and friendly competition with Tampa encourages physical activity, while supporting my commitment to efforts that build a healthier First Coast.”
The competition kicks off on February 9 at 7 AM, and goes until 7 PM. First Coast YMCA and Tampa YMCA locations will also be offering giveaways, chance drawings and other fun activities throughout the day. There will also be a countdown event at Yates YMCA on 221 Riverside Ave.
