Craft liquor is a booming business, and perhaps nowhere in the country is that evident than in the Oldest City. The St. Augustine Distillery welcomed over 123,000 visitors in 2015.
“We believe that we hosted more visitors last year than any other craft distillery in the United States,” said Philip McDaniel, co-founder and CEO of St. Augustine Distillery. “Our mission is two-fold. We are producing high-quality spirits using the best regional ingredients, as well as creating an experience-based tour focused on education, passion, and a commitment to Florida’s agriculture."
March, July, and December were the distillery's busiest months last year. The location is currently ranked number one in attractions in St. Augustine on Trip Advisor and offers free tours and tastings seven days a week. Located in the historic Ice Plant building, the tour features a museum, short documentary, and first-hand look into the production of small-batch vodka, gin, rum and Florida’s first bourbon whiskey. Each tour ends with a sampling of the spirits and an opportunity to shop in their extensive gift shop.
The craft distillery, which opened in 2014, is set to celebrate its two-year anniversary on Monday, March 7. The St. Augustine Distillery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday, 11 AM to 6 PM with free, guided tours and tastings every half hour.
