One Spark Continues Well After Dark

By Morgan Gonzalez

This year, One Spark is continuing the festivities throughout the night with One Spark After Dark. However, due to the success of last years after party, One Spark is extending the After Dark hours from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Last year, this portion of the festival was a huge hit, according to Brent Fine, One Spark Director of
Events. One Spark After Dark brought in an estimated 20,000 people last year and is expected to do well again.

“We drew a big crowd playing in the street,” said Florida State College at Jacksonville technical theater major and audiovisual helper, Alex Britto. “It was so fun with so many different people coming together and literally dancing in the street; the energy was crazy positive.”

The party lasted from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. every night. It was held in the Jax Chamber’s parking lot, 22 East Bay Street, which transformed into an entire after party with nightly concerts, nationally renowned DJs, craft beer and food trucks. The chamber’s lot was filled to maximum capacity.

The After Dark line-up this year will also be held in the Chambers Parking lot. It is free and open to all. The After Dark hours are extending two hours from last year.

The official hours and dates for One Spark After Dark are Wednesday April 8 through Saturday April 11 from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. The entire lineup of events can be found online at

One of the bigger name bands present this year is Somebody Else, from Berlin. They will be playing their second One Spark event. Somebody Else was the top cited band at One Spark Berlin.

Other bands preforming this year are local groups: Canary in the Coalmine, SUNBEARS! and On Guard. Artists are also coming in from California, Virginia, Nashville and more.

Indie-Rock Nashville natives and family band, KOPECKY, will be preforming on the last night of One Spark After Dark this year. “We are so excited to play this year’s festival,” said band member and founder, Kelsey Kopecky, “we have been tirelessly rehearsing our brand new songs… Can’t wait to play for all of you!”

This year there is sure to be music set to anyone and everyone’s taste. The genres range from rock n’ roll to pop, and alternative to folk. The musical creators will not be preforming at One Spark After Dark but can be found at The Landing or set up in small stages inside venues.

One Spark has an official DJ who will be spinning up tunes both day and night throughout the festival. DJ Lil’Boy is not only the One Spark 2015 official DJ, but also the official DJ of rapper T Pain.

There will be a total of nine bands preforming at One Spark After Dark, with three bands each night. DJ Lil’Boy will be opening the stage as well as capping off the night.

There will be a VIP lounge that is $95 per person. Tickets can be bought online. Many festival-goers last year chose this package.

Included in the VIP package is free food and drink, $1 off beer, 20 percent off One Spark merchandise, access to the lounge and up-close stage seating. The VIP pass provides opportunities to hang out with some of the creators of One Spark and meet some of the bands.

Music is not the only thing One Spark After Dark has to offer. Plenty of food and drinks will be available, including the official beer of One Spark, from Intuition Ale Works. Adding on, numerous entertainment acts of all talents, including acrobats and fire dancers will be present.

For the first time ever, One Spark is adding a musical element to their opening ceremony event held in Hemming Park, featuring California locals and siblings, Echosmith. Known for their hit single “Cool Kids,” the Sierota family was named one of the top 10 new artist you need to know by Rolling Stone magazine. Also joining them in the opening ceremony is the Connecticut duo, Mates of State.

“We wanted to be sure One Spark was kicked off with a huge event this year, so we added in a concert with national touring acts,” Brent Fine said. This ceremony will be entirely open to the public on Tuesday, April 7 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It is a free kickoff to the world’s largest crowd funding festival.

Brumos Automotive is a proud contributor of One Spark After Dark for the second year. Brumos chose to expand their sponsorship this year due to the success they received last year. Brumos will sponsor all four nights of One Spark After Dark.

“One Spark After Dark is the perfect combination of food, art and live music in the heart of downtown Jacksonville,” said University of North Florida student, Brooke Edwards. “The energy last year was so positive and unlike anything Jax has seen before.”
