Jacksonville has been hotly anticipating the opening of the new wing of the St. Johns Town Center for some time now. Today marked the official ribbon-cutting of the new Nordstrom store, as well as the new wing. Editorial interns Alexis McCartney and Riley Wolf were on hand to report on the expansion.
Boy does Jacksonville have something to brag about. Phase III’s grand opening, a celebration that was certainly worthy of all the yogurt parfaits, chocolate croissants and ice cold Pellegrino water laid out for attendees, went down in the St. Johns Town Center as the silky emblemed ribbon was cut earlier this morning. Anchored by Northeast Florida’s first luxury department store Nordstrom, Town Center shoppers are now able to indulge in fashion hotspots like Free People, Modelcitizen, Boston Proper along with other lifestyle stores like Disney and Yankee Candle.
Located on the southwest end between Louis Vuitton and Brooks Brothers, Phase III offers more than 158,000 square feet of retail space, along with other attractive water features and wooden hot pink chairs that give the space that perfect chic touch. Thanks to this expansion, Town Center goers can also enjoy the new addition of nearly 600 new parking spaces behind retailer Ethan Allen, Ovinté and the east parking lot behind coach and Michael Kors.
“I remember being here in 2003 when this was all dirt,” says Michael McCarty, executive vice president of development at Simon Property Group. “Because of the great team we have, Jacksonville fortuantely committed capital back in 2007 and we’re so thrilled to add them to our great list of retailers.”
Phase III’s other celebratory events include Nordstrom’s grand 10 a.m. opening this upcoming Friday, followed by a beauty bash, fashion shows, magicians, fire throwers, stilt walkers, and other Town Center street festival entertainment.
It looks like River City residents will be leaving the Town Center with heavier shopping bags these next few weeks.
