More than 41,000 blood donations are needed every day in the United States. World Blood Donor Week is June 14-21, timed perfectly for the period of the year in which blood banks are often running dry. With schools out of session, summer vacations and irregular schedules, fewer people are available to donate blood.
The Blood Alliance joins blood donation centers across the country to participate in the Nexcare give Program, now in its sixth year, during this critical time to boost blood donations.
Next week, during World Blood Donor Week, everyone who donates to the Blood Alliance via a donor center or blood drive will receive a Nexcare brand bandage adorned with the word "give" and will be entered into a daily random drawing for two tickets to the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens and a $50 restaurant gift card.
"As the sole provider of blood to all Northeast Florida hospitals, we depend on our community for help to constantly restock our blood supply," says Odette Struys, spokesperson for the Blood Alliance. "The Nexcare give Program aids us in raising awareness of this need and bringing the community together to make a difference and help to save lives."
